There are many different belief systems when it comes to feeding our bodies, and making healthy life choices to insure wellness. Too many folks eat without thinking about its purpose of nourishing our bodies for a long life. After years of clinical and observational trial and error, we have gathered data to support the suggestions that we believe work toward a healthy lifestyle. We ask our patients to incorporate these guidelines into their lives to reverse damage that has been done by unhealthy eating habits and lifestyle choices.
Most Important: Eat food God put on this earth — not manmade. If it can rot or spoil, God provided it for our nourishment. Shop the periphery of the grocery store (fruits, veggies, meat/poultry, fish, dairy, whole grain breads and cereal’s, nuts, seeds). Eggs are God’s multivitamin and one of the best protein sources you can choose. PRAY over your food and bless it for the nourishment of your body.
Never skip meals: This is very important.
Eat balanced meals: Ideally you should eat smaller meals more frequently – three meals and two snacks a day. If that is not possible, make sure that you are eating at least three meals a day. Never eat a protein alone, never eat a carb alone, never eat a fat alone. Basically, divide your plate into 1/3rds. Eat 1/3rd protein, 1/3rd real carbs. 1/3rd non-starchy veggies. Include a healthy fat with each meal.
Don’t ever count calories: This is truly not important, especially if you are eating the proper foods. Your body will naturally know when you are full. Do not eat beyond full, in other words do not pig out.
Never become obsessed with weighing yourself: Certainly knowing your weight is good information, but occasional checking is all that is necessary.
Avoid all foods containing aspartame/nutrasweet, splenda, high fructose corn syrup, hydrogenated/partially hydrogenated oils. These act as poisons in our bodies.
Use monosaturated, saturated and pure-pressed, cold-pressed, or expeller-pressed polyunsaturated fats (do not heat polyunsaturated oils).
Avoid carbonated soda’s/drinks.
Avoid white sugar/white flour/chemically processed foods: These are the main ingredients in many of the prepackaged foods today.
Never use margarine: This is manmade – used butter instead.
Avoid coffee: There is nothing of nutritional value in coffee – sorry. The caffeine stimulation negates health.
Alcohol: An occasional beer or glass of wine is harmless – Avoid all “hard” Liquors.
Tobacco: Dah!!!
Move your body: Do some form of exercise daily.
